Hi All,

I visited the Kloofendal Nature Reserve near Constantia Kloof on the west rand this weekend for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised at the variety of birdlife to be seen.

Besides the more common sightings, in the space of an hour I saw:

- Diderick Cuckoo (male and female)
- pair of Southern Boubous
- White bellied Sunbird (male and female)
- Wattled Lapwing
- Little Grebe
- Fiscal Flycatcher
- African Hoopoes

There is a nice little hide there overlooking a dam too..

Cheers

-

It's free to get in, and I think its open weekdays too... not 100% sure tho, I have only been there once on a Saturday...

You can buy a map for R5...

I saw a Lesser Honeyguide in Walter Sisulu on Saturday.

We also got lovely pictures of the Red-Chested Cuckoo and a somewhat not so lovely few of the Diderick Cuckoo.

African Black Swifts were flying around the waterfall.

Saw a Malachite Sunbird at Kloofendal NR on sunday.

WTM, can you please give me some directions from me to Zaagkuildrift? The GPS doesn't pick it up. Is it close to the Rust de Winter dam?

Thanks Johann.

Yolande, just to add to Johann's link.

The N1 from Pretoria to Polokwane will lead you to it after you've passed through the Carousel tollgate, continue on with the N1 and you will take the offramp at the Pienaarsriver.

Turn left, the opposite direction of the Rust de Winter dam. You will soon pass over a not well marked stop sign. Continue over it and then at the T junction turn right onto the R101 Old PTA Warmbaths road.

Drive like the link says for about a km. You will pass over a bridge (where you will find various swifts and swallows) and then immediately turn left onto a dirt track over the train spoor. This is the beginning of the Zaagkuil road.

About 25-30km's later you will reach Kgomo-Kgomo on this road.
