Wow, 4x80! You must have the arms of a serious bodybuilder to lift those wide/heavy lenses up. I am especially impressed that you managed to follow a Rock Martin around with these monster binos! Or did you mean 8x40? :?

I use the 8x42 Bushnell Legend.

Many, many, MANY, years ago a bought my binos. At that stage I was a very poor student and couldn't afford much. I spent weeks looking thru binos in shops, and finally settled for a very unknow 10x50 Rika. They are one of the clearest bino's i've ever used. Especially for how old they are! 8)

Today I will not give them up for anything..... well maybe a 10x50 Nikon Monrach! :D

While we're on the subject of binocs. I have used a 8x40 so far and it is ok, but very unstable. Does one get image stabileizers for Binocs? Where would be a good bet to look for new binocs that don't cost the equvilant of Zims GDP?
:hmz:

Hi Ferdelance. Normally 8x40 binos shouldn't be unstable. Here's a 7 pages long bino discussion which has got quite a lot of useful info. Bushnell has several good midprice binos for folks like us who have to leave the Leicas and Swarovskis on the shelves for a bit.

Thanks JoelR!

Now that I have read the thread I've got some good intel to make a decision. I'll probably buy one after X-mas though when everyone has spent their money and I can bargain with the shops!

On friday I received in the post a pair of Leupold 8x30s that I had won in a radio competition!

I think I am hanging up my 10x50s as these are as clear as daylight and a very comfortable pair.

I went on a little excursion on saturday to test them, and the first time I lifted them up almost took my head off, did not think they were so much lighter than my old 10x50s

Hi everyone.

I have a question here on binos?
We used to have a tasco 7x35 which just don't cut it any more. So I have been shopping around of late for better bino's.

What do you guys think about the following?
Nikkon 8x40 8.2 degrees Action
vs
Bushnell 8x40 (don't know the exact specs but they both Poro prisms)

The Bushnell are a lot more expensive but the seller was saying the Nikkon has a better coating? :hmz:

Can anyone give me a none sales view on this.....

I personally use a pair of Zeiss 8x42 Victory FL (Flourite Elements) for my birding...Zoom down to 2 metres for those tricky forest jobs and they are killer sharp and top of the heap for brightness and detail recognition. I let my guests use an old pair of Zeiss 10 x 40 BGT* on the Landy. Jane uses a pair of Leica Ultravid 10x42...lovely balance and really well made. Ferdelance I wouldnt touch any Image stabalised Binos as you loose the a lot of brightness and detail somehow
