Yolande, Chat flycaycher would be out of range....This looks a lot like a Familiar Chat, and if it did a fair amount of wing flicking, and has a orange tail..(Unfortunately the pics dont show this)....Then Familiar Chat it is

This little chappie was under the shadecloth in Twee Rivieren. When he settled, he would 'flex' his wings once or twice.

Please help me ID this bird: I think it might be a Familiar Chat,
Seen at Suikerbosrand , in the picnic area. It is a weird little bird, it came all closer to me, and after I took it's photo and moved to the other side, here they were again, walking everywhere I went??

Hi all,

This lbj is probably so ordinary I can't find it in my SA guides (don't have a SA field guide  ).

Thanks for the help.

Bas

Spotted at 2200 meters in Golden Gate NP.

It looks very much like a Familiar Chat.

There's always at least one couple around, and they're not shy

Just a key identification pointer when ID'ing this bird..

Familiar Chat has an upside down Black "T" on its tail when it spreads it, as apposed to the Upside down Black "V" Shape of the very similar Sickle Winged Chat 8)

I believe I have a resident Familiar chat in the vicinity of my property. I have identified it as such because it often raises its tail and flicks its wings. However I stand to be corrected.

What I would like to know if it characteristic of this bird to always go to bed late and wake up early. I have got used to this chat coming ‘home’ at almost dark and tweeting at about 4am. I take exception when it starts tweeting at around 2am. I often see the bird perched on my air-conditioning unit outside my bedroom.

I am sorry, I don’t have a photograph.
