DB- The Wattle eyed flycatcher in both sexes have a bright red wattle above both eyes. The Female has a black upper breast and the male a black bar along the breast. They also have deffinate white underparts and a blackish sort of colour for the upperparts.

1. There's always 1 or 2 Ashy Flycatchers around at Pafuri picnic site. Not easy to differentiate between Ashy and Grey-Tit, especially on this small photo but I did lighten the pic a bit and one can see the black lores and I can't see any white edges on the tail. So Ashy Flycatcher is my call.

@DB: Martie's 4th bird photo on Day 78 shows the Wattle-eye :tongue:

Agree with Johann's ID. Not sure if it's a good ID feature but the bill of the Grey-Tit Flycatcher is longer and not so short & stubby as the Ashy's bill.

Agreed with the latest ID.....I wish I could spend enough time time up in Pafuri Picnic Spot, to know which birds are always there or not :lol: .... :D Never been there before!!

Hi Tilandi,

I think you are right with Ashy. The white eye ring and wing pattern (white edges) look good. Is the red eye because you used a flash?

Hi Barcud. No I didn't use a flash. But I think I'll go for the Ashy. Thanks :thumbs_up:

Hello there,

If anyone can confirm these sightings for me, it would be greatly appreciated! They were all seen in KNP in September 2009.

Hi Wingman,

I'd also go with Ashy on this one with the black and white loral stripes. The white outer tail feathers always confuse me with these birds as the books say they have an all grey tail, but I've seen birds in the field and pics online showing this feature.

Location also points to Ashy as well.
