Thick billed weaver and wattled starling are my most unusual regulars I think .
Also amethyst and white bellied sunbird practically live of my aloes in winter, the WBS even brought there youngling with this year, so hopping we may have residents soon.

My most intereseting fly over on the rare occasion is vereux eagle courtesy of Suikerbosrand about 15Km away as the eagle flies.

we have a barn owl in the tree out front sometimes, and very occasionaly spotted eagle owl and marsh owl.

Living near an open vlei helps a lot for specials I think.

There are some white helmet shrikes visiting my garden in the West Rand from time to time, and the Verreaux's Eagles (resident in the nearby Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens) circle every now and so often.

There were 3 rosy-faced lovebirds in my garden in Twee Rivieren yesterday afternoon; always nice, especially viewing the fact that this is very far south in the Park for them... even the little yellow mongoose was fascinated!

What a wonderful way to start a Monday morning. We identified a Brown Snake Eagle in the tree in my garden this morning!

Hi,

Live in JHB, on top of a a hill.

Have a resident pair of Cape Eagle Owls that perch in a tree in front of my balcony, see them all summer :P . There's a spot light in front of my raised unit onto the koppie, think the owls sit at my place to use the spotlight as a food magnet (large insects as well as plenty field mouse), never seen them catch anything though (although ive seen them on the ground clawing under a rock..)

Other interesting ticks have seen a Southern Boubou and plenty Mountain Chats

WTM, If i get a few more takers, i'll put up some deck chairs and get a cover charge going!

Speaking of which, havent seen them since the weekend, but hear them at least every night. Eerie to say the least (my SO is not as happy with our feathered neighbours as i am, apparently its a bad omen to have owls sitting on your roof?)

I have regular visits from a Burchell's Coucal. We get many Crested Barbets, some Woodhoepoes, and today I spotted a Bee-Eater, but couldn't identify him in time.

Wow... I'm not that blessed when it comes to the exotic bird species  However, recently we've had a Black throated canary visiting the garden which I'm really happy about :D
