Rusty,
The first one was in Natal, near Scottburgh (at the Croc farm)
The other 2 (same bird) were taken at Kasouga, near Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape.

Thanks for trying

regards
Jo

1. Red eye, dark heavy bill, yellow head, Scottburgh points to Yellow Weaver.
2 and 3. Dark eye, light coloured bill, yellow head. At this stage I would go with non breeding male Yellow Weaver. I will have to look at it again when i have more time... :wall:

Nyala, it looks like a non breeding male Great Egret. Yellow bill and black legs.

These Yellow Weavers were found at a place call Lake Nhlabane, close the RBM mines on the way to St. Lucia.

Key distinctor between them and Golden Weaver is the red eye, where golden has a yellow eye.

BTW - the female in the background is a Lesser Masked Weaver

Hi Toko,

There are only two species of Weaver with a pale eye like yours present in Wilderness NP. Cape and Spectacled. Spectacled have a plain back with greyish blue legs. Your bird has a mottled back with darker wings and pinkish legs and is therefore a Cape Weaver.
