Is this a Dusky Lark?
Saw him near Mopani (KNP) mid April. The photo quality is not that great, had to zoom in quite a distance.
As far as I can find out Dusky Larks are summer visitors so, is it not a bit late in the year to see this little guy?
If not please help me identify.

Looks like Dusky Lark to me. My book says they are present December to May, so is within the time. We saw them in March in the Letaba area too - pretty little bird.

Hi
Probably either a groundscraper thrush or a dusky lark (much rarer but right time of year).
Though I am not an expert on identifying photos the wing patterning would perhaps suggest the lark.

Hi there Tilandi, although the photo's can't give a 100% ID, I am pretty sure you have yourself a Dusky Lark there, a very rare sighting, well done!!

Just a few distinctions between Groundscraper Thrush and Dusky Lark.. Dusky Lark has whitish legs, Smaller body, distinct whitish ring around the eye, stripes normally on extends to the chest.

Groundscraper Thrush is larger, more upright standing, Orange Brown legs, Larger more orange bill, Distinct Black Stripe through the eye and the stripes generally extend all the way to the stomach or further down.

Also one last thing is that you will see that the Lark above has markings on the wings where as the Thrush has a Pale grey back

Only one feature (the streaked/unstreaked belly) is obscured... there is enough other evidence to ID this bird as Dusky Lark:
Giss - GST would be much more upright
Bill - GST's bill is substantially longer
Eyebrow - GST's eyebrow does not extend all the way from the bill; DL's does.

Good one for your list!
