The bill of the weaver looks rather orange, combined with the white belly and location it makes me think of female or non-breeding male Red-headed Weaver.

I think care should be taken when looking at the bill-colour of this bird. The light condition might well be cheating a bit because of reflections from the yellow/orange flowers. I understand what you're saying though , JoelR , but shouldn't red-headed weaver have a plain grey back and ditto upper tail coverts?

Not to mention the nectar-and-pollen-paint that would be adding to the orange hue...

Lekker conundrum...

michealpr,
I agree with RJ it's a Southern Masked Weaver. Redheaded would have a much more yellow head with the orange bill, plain back with a very yellow wingpanel.

Hi Rob,

The bird is a Southern Masked Weaver and that little guy is a Meerkat.

Eish Bushmom,

In my opinion if someone looses it is due to only one of two reasons.
They are not good enough.
The other side was better.

All in the big spirit of togetherness.

Michel, I believe that the small critter is actually a yellow mongoose?

@RobNZ: It would help if you could tell us where you saw both the bird and the critter?

This cheeky male southern masked weaver visited me on my stoep at Karoo NP in September 2011.

Lovely pix of the nest builder, mel, I especially like the second one — looks like a leafy trapeze! Where were these taken? (And do you know what sort of tree with those berries?)
