General Impression of Size and Shape naturally. :roll:

But it appears I have scored an own goal here.

Possibly I should have said gape, but I meant the front of the face, Oom.

So everyone have a good laugh at my expense. I usually have one at yours. :wink:

Back to the bird. I was pretty sure it was an African Harrier Hawk through the binos.

We stopped a little way further on and I walked back 100 metres or so to take the the pics.

I wonder if I got the wrong raptor on a different tree?

From the pic, it would seem that jackal buzzard is the best call, although we saw quite a few and it didn't look like them, but distant raptors are difficult blighters.

I think Jackal Buzzard is the right call.

As for GIZZ, it has a completely different meaning as does JIZZ. I am very careful in using those spelling variations after I read the real meaning of it on google.

I usually just stick to GISS. :thumbs_up:

It's a jackal buzzard. Short rufus tail is diagnostic! :thumbs_up:

Hi folks,
Can someone help me ID this raptor we saw in Janyary 10th 2011 in H14, in KNP.

It was far away, so not very good picture, even when cropped. I (very) tentatively ID it as a Steppe Buzzard...

At least you can see that there are no feathers on the lower legs charbel, and it is a brown 'mottled' bird of SB proportions.

Correct with Steppe Buzzard, but I would say this is an adult bird.
