Plover, Pacific Golden

Unread postby Johan van Rensburg » Tue Oct 21, 2014 11:02 am

The Pacific Golden Plover is a rare summer vagrant from its breeding grounds in the Siberian tundra with only a handful of records in South Africa with years passing between sightings.

A 250 km twitch to Klipvoor Dam north of Brits in the North West Province for such a rare bird was a no-brainer! Pity about the harsh light… If it hangs around for a while I may give it another go.

It did seem very relaxed and at home, maybe it will hang around for some time...

Some more images of this very special visitor...

Hi Johan, I am keen to go, but it won't be before late next week. When you get there, please ask the Plover to stick around

Josh - I am also keen (Pretoria), but if I go it will have to be a early start in-and-out trip.
