Just come back from Kruger (legend)
I was excited to see a Greater Painted Snipe on the Letaba near Shimuwini, Unfortunately did not see the White-backed Night Heron that lives there.Has anyone else seen the Snipe or Heron around the park - where :?:

We have seen painted snipe on the Gudzani Road - east of Satara. Very close sighting and we were able to get lovely photos!

Hi Snippy and welcome!!

I saw a pair of painted snipes on 13 May 2006 in the little spruit that crosses the northern end of the S94 just befor the T junction with the S46. They were quite far away and since my attention was on a black stork feeding, it was some time before I noticed and recognised the snipes. I hope to have a closer of view them someday, but they are certainly distictive birds!

The two night white-backed herons seems to be breeding @ the Shipandane hide just south of Mopani. Awesome sighting of the Snipe!!

We had a female on Aug 3rd on a pool on the river just south of the Letaba river on the H14, near Shimuwini.
Pretty distant so not a great shot.

WOW some really great photos there! I saw my first Greater painted snipes at Kgomo Kgomo 2 weeks ago! Very beautiful and shy! Though at first the male was the brown one...... so you learn! I'd love to see one longer than a few seconds though, so magnificant!
