Hi,

Ok let's try that again, and thanks Kamadejo  . Photo should now be attached. Hopefully someone can tell me what bird it is! It's funny but for the last 4 years all I've had is that photo and have been wondering every time just what does it's face look like :hmz:

Thanks in advance,

Sharky74

Hi Sharky,
This is what your bird's face looks like
It is a Cape Weaver, they love aloe flowers and their faces turn red from the pollen
I took my pics in the Addo Park. I see there is some spekboom in the back ground
of your pic, was it also taken in Addo?

Good morning everybody. I hope you all had a good weekend.

The following is hopefully a Cape Weaver.

I was also so happy to see my first "static" Malachite Kingfisher at Intaka Island, now if only I can keep the camera as static to get an in-focus shot it would be great.

Correct.

Good luck with the Malachite photograph, One day one WILL sit still long enough with no branches or shadows in the way etc., and your focus and exposure will be just right and the battery charged. :cam:

This cape weaver framed himself at the restaurant in the WCNP.

Strandfontein today. Is this a plain backed pipit. Sorry, it was the only pic.

Nope! Plain-backed means exactly that: no scalloping on the back. This bird does not look like a pipit in any case. The tail is too short and the rump shows yellow. The tertials are heavily fringed pale yellow and the general impression I get from the bird's posture, the scrubby habitat and the birds interaction with the bush is weaver.

Thanks Joh, having enlarged the pic afterwards and done some more looking up, I agree with you.

Thanks.

Less than 3 months now.
