Hi Hugh,

When we were there about 6 weeks ago they were busy building a bush camp just past Tlopi, I guess it's the same one and yes, it's SANParks. Unfortunately I don't seem to have a pic.... sorry. :?
It's in a beautiful setting, really a nice little camp!

Do you have gps co-ords. As far i can remember building on the camp was stoped a while ago.

No Louis, sorry I don't.
I know it was stopped a while ago but I believe they are working on it again.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same camp site.
As you get to the site there is a very big tree on the right hand side with 4 "A" frame mud hut's.

I think we are thinking about the same camp yes.
Turn off to the right just as you pass Tlopi, nestled in the foothills of the mountain.

We were there this past week for 3 nights camping and we didn't really enjoy it that much. To be honest we almost froze to death and there were very little game to be seen.

We are regular Kruger-campers, so maybe our expectations were a bit high... but I dont think we will be returning to Marakele anytime soon.

P.S. If you do not have a 4x4 or at least a high vehicle... it will definately be an interesting trip!

We are great fans of Marakele.

Will this new camp be another campsite - would love to have more info about it.

We camped in Bontle for 4 nights over the June long weekend and although it was cold - went below zero at night - we enjoyed it tremendously. Bontle is just an awesome campsite - nothing like it, even in Kruger.

Although sightings were a bit scarse in the mountain section of the Park, there were more than enough to keep one busy in the area surrounding Bontle. Here all the roads are also in an excellent condition.

The cold nights also brought us a very special sighting - AARDVARK!! I posted pics in the Aardvark thread in Mammals.

Jenb andLouis If you look on Google earth it is just beyond Tlopi to the North . So as its not really complete its not on Sanparks booking yet . We will be staying at the camp site down near the entrance ... and we have a high clearance =Venture and we only have two nights so I am sure we will be fine.Cant wait . Google earth is super for checking out the camps.

I want to know more about this camping camp?! It looks awesome with regards to the setting..... If it is close to Tlopi camp it is in the Big5 / dangerous animal section....? Furthermore then I take it there will be a fence? Marakele should get rid of the fence between the Marakele (Pty) Ltd park (Welgevonden?), and it will become a second diamond like Kruger (not that I don't love it as it is now....

JenBird, perhaps any more info on this new site, I'm very curious about this new 'development'!!!

I hope it is not a 'bushcamp' as such but another camping area! Although logic tells me it looks more like a 'bushcamp'...... Still very interesting!

G@mespottertjie, good news and bad news.
The good news is that the fences between the big5 area and the lower area will be coming down sometime in the future. The bad news is that SANParks needs to buy up a few farms to make it a reality but hey, it's going to happen. 8)
Can you imagine camping in Bontle with no big 5 fences? The predators will live on those plains.

I don't have anymore info about this new camp. It would be wonderful if it was a camping area, would it not? Give me a day or two, I'll see if I can chase up a bit of info for you.
