We have just returned today from Marakele where we stayed for 4 nights. A notice has been put up at the ablution blocks explaining that they are busy conducting an environmental impact study as they are intending to erect a tented camp at Bontle. I also spoke to Sipho, the hospitality manager who says that they are expanding. Some of the goods and bads: The game viewing at the waterhole was fantastic but the highlight was a sunset drive we took with Sydney. His knowledge of the bush is incredible and he went out of his way to help us find the elephants which we found towards the end of our drive. On the way back we came across some domestic dogs in the road. We managed to capture one but the other ran off. They need to manage things better at the gate, they check the car on exit not on entrance and they don't check inside people's caravan's. Can't see the point of this exercise then ...? Sydney is the best guide we have ever had on a game drive and we have done a few. Unfortunately the camp was full this weekend and we suffered the consequences. Toilet paper ran out on Saturday and was not replaced. The toilets were cleaned only once a day and there was no soap. 2 toilets per circle simply is not enough to service the number of campsites and if any upgrades are being done some thought needs to go into this. If there is anybody out there going soon, please book a night drive with Sydney, it's worth it.
Thank you for your feedback from Marakele National Park and a compliment to our colleagues in Marakele. All tourism issues raised will receive a speacail attention. We will further encourage our security officials at the main gate to do quality check when guest arrive and depart the Park.
