Good day all.
I have read, in various reports, that this road is narrow and poses a challange.
The challange, can be dealt with when encounterd.
Question: How narrow is narrow?
Will be there in just over three weeks.

We were there in October 2009. The road is really not a challenge. Is tarred, not all that narrow, wide enough for 1 car and enough space should you encounter traffic from the opposite side. Very steep with a lovely view. Really worth the trip. Enjoy.
A lovely park and we had a lovely time when camping there. Will definitely be going back in the near future.

It is a beautiful road! One of my favorites!

But it is very narrow with a steep drop right next to you ... and great views!

The majority of the road is only broad enough for one vehicle. There are a few "parking" spots where one vehicle can get far enough off the road, for another to pass. The problem comes when you have a few vehicles trying to get up and down at the same time.

But just keep cool, it can be done!

We went to Marakele in February this year. The Saturday morning we went up the road, and found it was very busy and several cars tried to pass each other. It is still worth going up the road as the view is spectacular.

If you go, you might be struck by the breathtaking beauty you will find on the way up and at the top and then you will tell everyone you know & I'll have to deal with your traffic jams the next time I'm there!!!!

As you can see on leeukos pics the road is narrow but does have places that two cars can pass.

Looks ok to me. It certainly looks better than the road through Baviaanskloof, which has no tar at all. 75km takes ± 4 hours.

Mrs and I will be there Saturday for a week, caravaning at Bontle.

The road is steep and narrow but totally worth it.

I don't know who the people were outside of their cars, but they will be "leeu kos" if they try that in the Kruger...

Been there, walked around, saw 11 Cape vultures soaring effortlessly around and a Klipspringer on the roadside.
At 2024m the summit has a 991m elevation from the level at Bontle at 1033m. Almost 1 km climb up the mountain.
Road was ok, luckily not much traffic in either direction.

@ Bert …my SO also has a fear of heights….we drove up to the towers on Saturday…with me doing the driving, it was wonderful to see my SO, for the first time in many months, not giving one thought to his work stress….especially on the way up, when the cliffs were on his side of the car….great stress reliever (so is the amazing view from the top )
