Unread postby AndreB » Sat May 16, 2009 1:53 pm

Please tell us about a sighting which you will remember for a long time.

If possible, tell us where in the park, when, what time(more or less),and what the weather was like(if you can remember).

Reading about your sighting may just prompt us to visit that particular Park!!!

Any :cam: :cam: ,will make us

I was staying at Tlopi Tented Camp in Marakele a few easters ago. My wife and I were sitting on the deck enjoying a glass or 2 of wine watching the setting sun across the dam. Suddenly we saw 3 wild dogs run past chasing a wilderbeast into the bush. Wishing the area was more open so we could see more, we consoled ourselves with a grat wild dog sighting. Next minute, on the other side of the dam from us, 2 other wild dogs caught an impala and within a few seconds, the whole pack had appeared and boy, did they eat quickly!! Not a bad way to end the day, a glass of wine and a wild dog kill, all from your decking!

You certainly were extremely lucky to witness the kill and food-fest that followed! Thanks for sharing,Simonbee. The Wild Dogs are such magnificent
providers that I can only imagine them feeding the litter of pups back home.

Just recently we had a super sighting in Mapungubwe.

Just after 7 a.m. were were between Leokwe Camp and the Main Gate. My husband said "There's nothing here this morning". As he finished his sentence, a young leopard ("teenager") crossed the road and then sat in the bushes at the side of the road (about 10m from the car), studying us. We had this wonderful sighting for about 5 minutes before he moved off, slowly. He was on his own but was not at all nervous.

I can hear the "wow" in your account of unexpectedly meeting up with a leopard,Hippotragus.Goes to show how easily the seemingly "empty" bush comes alive!
