Wbcam for Maloutswa Gamehide Mapungubwe

Unread postby BiancaE » Mon Jan 26, 2009 8:48 am

I'm new at this forum thing but I have seen that the webcams in Kruger is sponsered by forum members.can't we organize something for MNP?I had a camera up at maloutswa for almost 5 weeks last year and the number of wildlife sightings was amazing.
the cameras were on loan from Hillary a phd student from the us and i unfortunately had to return it.

Hi BiancaE,

Like Cassius said, it would be great to have a webcam at Mapungubwe. However, there is limited (virtually no) infrastructure at Mapungubwe, which makes it extremely difficult to implement IT-wise.

Sorry to disappoint.

What is needed is a good internet connection to pop the photos over to the server. And as you probably know, that isn't present.
This can be solved (at cost!) by the solution used for the Nossob cam, via satellite.

However what Admin didn't add to her reply is the monthly cost of the servers / traffic it involves.
The current 3 cams are good for a lot of traffic per month (December: 684.31 GB), and soon the Addo cam will go online too, upping it to probably 1 terabyte per month.
And all that traffic costs money....
Arriving currently: The photos from our trip! Overhere! :yaya:

Yes i must admit it was very special to see such a big herd of eland
Unfortunately it was late and getting dark so it was difficult to get good photos

What made this EXTRA special is the fact that this is the Northern race Eland - Livingstone's Eland... 8) they have faint white stripes (hopefully you can see it in the pics).

Just to see a herd of ellies like this at Maloutswa, is good enough reason for us to return to this park.

You really had some fantastic sightings at Maloutswa. The eland were really special though.

Very interesting about the two sub-species - I did not know that. Only knew about the Giant Eland, also known as the Lord Derby eland, an endangered species living in two isolated pockets in Western and Central Africa.

Thanx for sharing that with us.
