Hey Bianca! Great to see you on the forum. To everyone else: Bianca had worked as a field ranger in the park for many years and probably knows more about the park than all of us combined - so let's keep her on this forum! 8) To Bianca: as you can see/read the enthusiasm on this forum for Mapungubwe has grown a LOT in the past two years. It almost becomes too popular!

Personally, I would give an arm and a leg for a webcam at Maloutswa! I understand the 'Nossob-solution' is expensive - DuQues/Nedret, can any of you find out HOW expensive? :?

The cam itself isn't the cost.

The cost is in putting the infrastructure down, and keeping it up. If the cam needs a reset or such that means someone will have to take the time to go there and do it.
And then there is the considerable cost trafficwise. I don't know the contract SANParks has with their provider, but can tell you that every gigabyte will have to be paid. And an extra cam creates at least 250 GB per month...

And then there is the serverside.... Is the server up to it, or will it be too light and yet another has to be bought?

Many factors, so it's a bit difficult to estimate any cost.

We were in Mapungupwe for the first time ever during the long weekend in March. It must have been a dry rainy season, because the pan is already dry, with only water that is pumped into the pan. It looked like the pics above.

The sightings were very good at the pan. We saw some Ellies, Eland, Girrafe etc, but the highlight must be the family of Bush pigs that visited the pan on a few occasions.

Jen,

As I reported in the tree top walk thread, the hide is still under repair and will probably be functional during Oct 2014  .

Barry, are you referring to the hide at the treetop walkway OR to the Maloutswa Hide, which is totally different and in the western section of the park?

Arks,

I was referring to jen's initial questions that was raised in the following topics Here and Here as well.

There is nothing wrong with the Maloutswa hide.

So I has been repaired and re-opened after the floods of 2013.
When we visited in June 2013 it was in ruins and still partially submerged.
Great news - thanks for the update.
