Hi,

We've got a booking for a 2/4 person cottage at Leokwe camp in a couple of weeks.

Can anyone please confirm whether these cottages have the following:

- bed linen
- towels
- kitchen utensils
- crockery and cutlery

Tried to ring a couple of times, but am having trouble catching anyone on the phone.

I haven't been to Mapungubwe , but I have been to quite a few SANParks, and in my experience the cottages always have towels and bed linen.

If they have a kitchen (and the Leokwe ones do according to the website) then they always have utensils and crockery. But I usually take a good sharp knife, corkscrew and can-opener from home, because sometimes these items are either missing or of poor quality. And, hey, I'm fussy.

Hopefully someone who has stayed in Leokwe will see this thread and confirm what I've said.

Hi Walter! All of the above is readily available at Leokwe. The camp is in fact very well located, designed AND equipped.

The park is experiencing a lot of problems with (phone)cable theft in the Musina area, so that is probably the reason the phone wasn't picked up (you hear a dialing tone, but no phone is actually ringing). You can always send an e-mail to Mapungubwe's hospitality manager Norman Mudau (normanm@sanparks.org) at Mapungubwe, but also don't hestitate to stalk this forum with a few more questions!

I THINK the P stands for Perimeter.

I am also looking for a map of the layout of the camp, to show which units are which. I have been booked in the unit with Z (for disabled) but I wonder if it is on the perimeter?

It's a really lovely camp. The accommodation is superb, the scenery stunning and it has the prettiest little pool!

ISO going to Punda in the last week of Feb 2010 my Mrs and I have decided to rather go to Mapungubwe as this will be a first and as far as the heat is concerned, I doubt if there will be a difference? I have read as much as I can abt the camp and report's like Meandering Mouse's helped a lot to swing our venue. Tnx MM
Just two questions, are there enough birds and can one get close to photograph them like most in KNP or do they fly in all directions when you are a 100 meters away.? From this you will know that I will have camera's with me and wont be looking for Lions I know that if its dry there will be a major distance from the hides to the water but I am talking in general next to the roads.?
The overhead boardwalk, how do you get to it, is it wheelchair friendly??
For long distances I need to use a wheelchair for my wife.
Vehicle will be a normal sedan but I gather from other posts that there are enough roads for normal sedans ie not 4x4.
Appreciate any help and pointers.

I am going to the same camp in three weeks time and also for the first time. Don't you love this forum... free advice....!!

I am swapping my company car which often has had to pretend to be a 4x4 with a fellow colleague for my trip this time! I am also going for the birds so I will fill you in with some information when I get back or with a bit of luck with some connectivity whilst there!

You can get great lizard and scorpon photos in Leokwe camp.

You won't be sorry!

Mapungubwe is great for some birding with the wonderful river forest attracting many species! The hides are some of the best I have ever seen.

Yes, the boardwalk is wheelchair friendly! Also great for birding!

Some of the roads are not accessible by sedan. But there is enough to see the most of the park.

One tip. If you go to Maloutswa hide (a must!) in the western section of the park, do not follow the "Den staat" gravel road which is the most direct route, but rather follow the tar road all around the park and enter the park from the Pontdrift side. The road there is still mostly gravel, bu it is a lot shorter and in a much better state than the "Den staat" road.
