Does anyone have any idea as to how far Bela-Bela (warmbaths) is from Marakele.

If you take the R516 to mabula and turn right at the t at koedoeskop R511 you are looking at about 220 - 250km. Well worth the trip

In the lower section ofthe park (kwaggas vlakte) there is a place to get out and have a braai, and you don't have to worry about uninvited guests

Good morning everyone!
This topic was very interesting for me! We will leave J´burg on Sunday to go to Marakele for 3 nights! Now I really cannot wait to be there!!!
This topic was also very helpful for me so thanks so much for all your tips! I will now look for all the TRs JenB posted in a Link!

But only one question. Did it also rained a lot in Marakele so there is water everywhere available and not only the dam?

I also planed a Morning Drive on Monday and we are very curious. We only know KNP and the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi very well so this will be a new adventure for us :D

Wish you all a wonderful day!

Karin

Hi

I believe your stay in Marakele will be worthwhile and we will see you even coming back followed your visit on Sunday. There has been rain in Marakele National Park and the park looks very much green the pedicure grass is just spectacular.

I hope you will enjoy your stay and feel free to send me a report on cassiuss@sanparks.org or phone me should you have challenges.

 :D

I am planning a trip to Marakele end of next week. Does the Tlopi camp has a restaurant and or a store or is it self-catering? I can bring food that is not a problem but like to know if there is anything available.

Hi Bart47,

Marakele is completely self catering. There is a little shop at the entrance gate but you would only be able to get wood and ice and a few other small items there.

Your best bet would be to make sure to take everything you might need although Thabazimbi is only 15km away in case of an emergency.

Enjoy Marakele, Tlopi is a lovely camp! :D

Thanks JenB,

Bringing food and all is no problem, i have a big cooler so i can bring everything i need.
Looking at the site i am not sure how Tlopi works.
I read that the safaritents are fully equipped with a kitchen, stove and all. That sounds great.
But it is possible to get into the camp and park by sedancar? Or do i need a 4 x 4 car?

I theory you should be able to get to Tlopi quite easily by sedan but we were there 2 weeks ago and road condition is not all that great after all the recent rain in the area. Most of the people staying in Tlopi at the time were in sedans so I think it is quite do-able if you just drive slowly.

When you pass through the tunnel, you'll get to a steep uphill. The road was at it's worst there. When you get to the T-junction, you'll be traveling on tar for a short distance to the Tlopi turn-off. The turn-off road was not is such a bad shape. Just after Tlopi camp, you'll pass over a little stream, I would not suggest you traveling that way, it was very bumpy even in a 4x4.
