Hi there,

It is the first time that we will visit Stormsrivier. We are planning to do the hiking trail - short ones. Can you advise me if it is necessary to do the trails with hiking shoes or can we just do it with our tekkies? It is me, my husband en 2 daughters.

I would honestly go with hiking boots especially for the kids reason being well hiking boots are designed to protect the ankle and soles of the feet I don't think you'd want to be running to emergency rooms in your holiday ENJOY!

I have gone on many walks and trails and used both.

If the terrain is rocky and uneven, it is helpful to have the ankle support. I have extremely flexible ankles though and too much support can lead to foot pain. A lot of children have this flexibility. I tend to use tackies unless I am carrying something, or I know I am in for a rough walk.

I find support against grass and ticks very important. The grass can give horrible grass burns on sensitive skin and ticks just love latching on. Wear light long trousers and put tabbard, or an insect repellent all over the body. I have found ticks in the strangest places, including the tummy area.

If you bought boots, would you use them again?
Tekkies should be fine for those walks, even the waterfall trail (start of the Otter), just be careful with where and how you place your feet, pay attention.
You would be fine with tekkies on the suspension bridge trail too, all the way up to the lookout (I did it in January).

That's the thing - this is our first trail, and I don's know if the kids will like it - so thanx, we will use our tekkies then, and the decide afterwords on the boots.

Tekkies more than OK - even for the short ones through the forest (eg Loerie). Just take water and take it slow - can be surprising hot under the tree canopies. And sweets off course for the kids :-)

Tekkies can be good, but it totally depends on the tekkies....

Two, hmmm three already...,months ago I bought myself a pair. Without the irritating thingy for between the toes, but I never looked at the sole. Those I slipped with a lot, and then you put a lot of force on the sides. Which of course could not cope, so two weeks after buying them they were sticking out of a bin.
I almost broke my neck in a few steep places, never had sure footing.

I would recommend at least sneakers with a good grip.
