I am biased because I love the forest cabins, no. 1 which has a good view of the ocean (a few of the others have a partial ocean view, and most face onto a lovely tree-filled clearing). They are self-catering, but have communal ablutions and kitchen.

Camping is right by the seashore and is tremendous, although sometimes relatively congested.

Dinky Bird and DuQues (and others) probably know the camp a lot better than me, so let's see what they say ...

You can choose oceanette, a little self-catering flat for 2 with a wonderful view of the sea.
I spent 2 nights there last February and everything got well.

I would really like some help in choosing too. We are a family of 4 (teenage boys) staying at Storms River for 2 nights at the end of July. At the moment we are booked into a CH4P (CHALET - PENS) whatever that means. I have not been able to find it on the map and I don't know what PENS stands for. But it will hold the 4 of us.

There are now family cottages available for the 2 nights- and there is a large oceanette for one night. What would be the nicest- stick with what we have or swap? We like beautiful views but the oceanettes look a bit concretey. Are the family cottages the best bet? Or should we do 1 night in each?

Hi

I hate to move and will therefore stay both nights in same unit.

The one that you are booked in is one of no 18-21 on the map. I don't think their view is so nice and would try to avoid them.

We have stayed in the oceanettes and they have excellent views, but yes they are like a block of flats, except that the 2 bigger ones are on either end. Especially the one to the west (N on the map) must be the accomodation with the best view in the park - overlooking the bay at the start of the Otter trail.

The family cottages are close to the sea with excellent views. I believe no 21 to 26 on map. I will definately go for them.

You can always phone Stormsriver and confirm your exact booking related to the number on the map.

We have just stayed there for 2 nights and it was great as always.

Here is an image that show the family cottages.
You can see that they are elevated for a better view and very close to the sea.

This time of the year you must book a unit where you can stay inside if you have to, if the weather is not playing along. The family cottage will certainly provide that.

Thanks Hoephoep for the advice and the great pictures. That makes it all very clear. I'll try to change for the huts.

I'm hoping it won't be too cold- but compared to a Scottish summer - we will probably feel at home despite it being winter. But the huts look very cosy.

We're staying in a tree house up the road before this so these will be luxury!

Hi

Enjoy your stay.
Yes a SA winter will feel like summer to you!
Must do at Stormsriver Mouth:
Whach the ocean for whales - blowing water or tails flapping. Hope you have binoculars.
Watch the bay at the start of the Otter Trail at Oceanettes for dolphins.
Walk down to the suspension bridge.
Take the boat for a short trip up the river.
Do the short (2 hour) Loerie trail.
Watch the famous Skietklip for breaking waves - see photo.

It is a very safe environment and the boys are going to enjoy the outdoors.

Remember to give us feedback when you return home.

Great photo thanks. Have successfully changed my booking to the hut. I googled Skietklip before you added the photo- amazing.
We're onto Addo and then Kruger after this so it's going to be a great trip. Will certainly intend to report back- but a bit daunted by the standard set. I've really enjoyed reading the way the parks have been brought alive by the trip reports on the Forum.

Don't worry about that, nobody else does.
