I started this thread so we can share images and sightings of what you have seen and where during your trip at the Addo Elephant National Park.

13th and 14th December 2013

We entered the Park through the Matyholweni Gate in the late afternoon on the 13th.

Animals we spotted on our way to the Main Camp up North:

Lots of Elephant, Red Hartebeest, Burchells Zebra, Black Backed Jackal, Ostrich, Warthog, Yellow Mongoose, Kudu, Tortoises. A big herd of Buffalo crossing the tar road just after the Number 4 intersection towards Number 3 (Woodlands). We were on our way towards Domkrag Dam area to see the 2 male Lions that have been spotted by a few people during the day, but we couldn't find them.

We arrived at the camp and checked in. Had a nice braai. Heard Hyena twice during the night.

The next moring, after having a nice breakfast at the restaurant, we left camp and went straight to the Domkrag Dam area. About 500m just before the Domkrag Dam intersection, we spotted the two male Lions sleeping about 100m from the road on our right. We spent a few minutes there, then headed for Gorah Loop, at Carols Rest a big herd of Buffalo were sleeping/resting with some calves. At Hapoor Dam and Rooidam elephants were cooling off in the water. All the animals that we have spotted on Day 1, have also been seen regularly on Day 2.

We then went back to the Main Camp for a swim and to collect our luggage. Animals that we wanted to see before exiting at Mathyholweni were: Eland, Hyena and Rhino.

Somewhere in the Park, while I was driving something caught my eye. I told my friends I'm sure I had just seen a Rhino, I then reversed, about 50m from the road where a previous fence was, a huge Black Rhino was standing, it turned and looked at us for a few seconds, and then ran into the thick bushes. What a sighting!

I've often seen Eland but have never ever any Hyena at Addo. Only once before I spotted a small Black Rhino.

I don't think there's any Leopard in the Main Game area....

Addo is a very neat park with clean facilities and friendly staff.

We were at Addo from 2nd to 5th December. Stayed at Matyholweni and really enjoyed it. So peaceful. We also saw a black rhino, LOTS of elephants and had several lion sightings, one all to ourselves, very close and walking past the car. But the most exciting and incredible for me was THREE separate caracal sightings within half an hour on the way back to camp  on our last evening! Doubled the number I have ever seen. Just the time you do NOT want to see "Full CF card" in your viewfinder :wall: .

We have seen hyena at the waterhole on the way to Hapoor. I forget it name.

Very occasionally leopard are seen in the main game area. I think they use it in passing.

My best ever SANPark sighting, in fact wild life sighting was in Addo. The birth of a baby red hartebeest near Domkrag dam.

Hi Jacliz

All my Caracal sightings were also in the Southern part of Addo. My camera worked a week before I went to Addo, when I got to Addo it didn't work, so I have no pictures at all...

The dam is called Rooidam, 3 months ago it was empty and dry, but it has lots of water now.

Hopefully someone will post pictures of Leopards in Addo.

Great Hartebeest sighting!

I always see them in the very late afternoons on my way out of the park. I have a picture somewhere of one, they are so quick and shy. Will see if I can find it and post it on here.

I have no idea how to cut and paste bits from other people's posts  so I'll have to do it like this......
@ lion queen: All was not lost. The caracal was very obliging and hung around while I changed my card :P . I must say I was in quite a panic :) . I managed to get quite a few photos and one or two are in focus
@ Werner-Patat: No pictures  - a good reason to plan another visit!
@ BB: Birth of a red hartebeest - that's something you'll never forget :D

Nice thread idea Werner

RonnieL used to have a thread with regular sightings and information from the park, so perhaps it'll be good to get something up and running like this again. I would suggest a few pics where possible :D

Seeing as the talk is about caracal at the moment, here's one from a recent visit. Early morning where the southern access road first joins the Mbotyi Loop as you're heading north.
