Have just re-read DB's trip report, any other advice or info for visiting MZP, will be there in 54 sleeps.

Mountain Zebra might be disappointing if you are wanting to see lots of varieties of big game. (We have seen the buffalo, but no the rhino.)

However the scenery is superb, as is the birding.

I love the place, even when I freeze there in winter.

Just be carefull of the ants. They have quite a sting in their bite . Other, it is a beautiful park.

Just read through my trip report again to see if I could add more to this thread. The ants are large and were there in winter so expect them to be a problem as Reinette said, especially in summer if you are camping.

MZNP is a very peaceful Park, very quiet and scenic. Lovely fresh mountain air!

I had one of my most amazing wildlife experiences at MZP - it's worth taking the route up into the mountains (I've forgotten the name but it's narrow and one way). Whilst up there I saw a single eland move before the whole mountainside moved - there must have been at least 200 - all together!!

I have not been to Mountain Zebra for 2 or 3 years. I am hoping to go next month. I see there is a new 4x4 road open. Anybody know what it is like? I doesn't look very long.

Is there anything else new? Are there any new activities?

The 4x4 route is not long at all lam. We did it. We were told in reception one might see the black rhinos along it but we did not. Still a pleasant drive. (Did it in our microbus so it is hardly challenging 4x4 wise. And we had permission to do it in the m/bus.)

I've been to the camp for two nights and I am convinced this is the park with the best service in RSA. What a pleasure to stay there!

The reaturant food is good too.

If you have never stayed here , it is a great overnighter on the way to the garden route from gauteng .
Nice accomodation , beautiful scenery and lots of game sightings up close.

The variety of animals seen on the drive from the gate to the restcamp was amazing. Counted 12 mammel species and numerous birds. I cannot wait for the park to be expanded and cheetah to be released in 2006.

When we visited earlier this year I found exactly the same....wonderful sightings between the gate and the camp!

MZNP trip report.

Have to agree with Christo & lam. We spent three nights there in November and the staff were all helpful and friendly.

Saw DB's Ardwolf on the road between camp and gate on more than one occasion.

The 4x4 was also shut during our visit as was the longer of the two loops for a day. Driving the loop the following day we could see why.

Any advice on camping in MZ Park?
Does the sites have electricity?
If they do, do you need a long lead & the blue plug?
Is there a communial kitchen?
What is the weather like during April?
Any other things to keep in mind to make the camping experience more pleasurble?
