Go to Mountain Zebra and spend there two days and you will have enough time to do both of the routes and try to find the rhinoes. Landscape is great and accommodation is nice as well.

I agree with MM...MZ is a beautiful place with lots of animals for your toddler to look at. I think you will be happy there for 4 nights especially if you stay in the guest house. I have some photos further down the page (can't remember how to do a link!)

This photos , Kathy ?

Thanks for all the replies!! We now have our route sorted with 2 nights at MZ and 2 nights at Bizweni Cottage on one of the 4x4 trails within the Karoo NP. Anybody been to Bizweni Cottage?

This weekend we are off to Marakele for the first time.

Embizweni Cottage is a relatively new development in Karoo NP (opened in 2009). I have not been there yet - but I am certain you will not regret your decision to make Karoo NP part of your itinerary. So many persons - so many opinions, but in my opinion Karoo NP is one of the gems amongst our National Parks. We were there on our 40th visit during January. Most of our visits is just 1 night stay-overs, but we have have also spent up to 13 nights at a time in the park (and several 4 - 7 day holidays). I am sure you will enjoy your stay. I cannot drive north (towards Kruger), or south (coming back) and miss a night at Karoo NP. To us it is a compulsory overnight facility.

Hi Papop
in november 09 we spend four nights at unit 20 and it was definitively a quiet unit with a great view, no hikers and no cars etc.

I suppose it depends on how lucky you are. We had some noisy hikers passing # 20, but then that could be the exception to the rule.

Has anyone noticed if there is now Vodacom reception at MZNP? I was there last about a year ago, and there was none, only MTN.

Hi Dinkybird

We had Vodacom coverage in our chalet as well as around the park. Some areas such as near the second windmill on the link road there was no coverage but definately in the rest camp.

Regards
Ross

Thanks for the reply Ross! I know we go to the parks to get away from 'Life' ... but if not forewarned one can end up there and not be able to let anyone know you have arrived safely for eg. (Last time the public phones were out of order.)

Hope somebody can help me.

We camped at the Mountain Zebra NP about three years ago. Brilliant park with its routes and walks. The campsite was very enjoyable but the ablusions were not op to standard.

I saw an article in the Weg (a few months ago) that advertised the park and would like to know if the ablusions were upgrade yet?

We really enjoyed the park en would like to visit it again.

Hi Joseph Barry,

I have just returned from Mountain Zebra - we camped there for 3 nights last week.

I have nothing but the highest praise for the Park. The camping area is wonderful, with some new sites added; and the ablutions have recently been redone, as the laundry and kitchen. All were spotless and in good condition.

The staff were amazing and so professional and friendly. The infrastructure of the park is super with roads well maintained and signposted, the picnic areas are lovely - just everything is tops.

We found it very cold at night though - so go prepared.

I will post some pics just now.
