We (a couple of Australians) are picking up a hire car from Port Elizabeth Airport and will be heading straight to Addo Rest Camp (next weekend! Yippee!!!). We would like to stop enroute to collect some food supplies. Can somebody suggest a good place to stop, preferably not in PE if possible? Also, is there much variety available in the park in terms of purchasing supplies for self catering? Many, many thanks! Jules
Although this reply is a bit late for you jules, if anyone else is looking for the same information, there is a shop in Addo rest camp which sells some basic supplies. There is also a shop called Lenmore, about 10 minutes drive from the Park (in the direction of Addo town), which sells fresh vegetables, salads, fruit, home-made bread, cakes and other supplies.

We leave Plett on Friday, 18th of April and was wondering if anybody knows what if any Food Stores will be open en-route. We want to leave our meat shopping until the latest as will be staying at Troggon House in Plett Thursday evening. Is the town Addo closest to Main Camp or is Colchester closest?

Robert I found the village of Addo a not particularly good place to shop. However it is the closest village to the Addo main entrance. The village of Colchester is much better with a well stocked medium size supermarket co-located with the petrol station on the main road (N2) just east of the turn off for the Southern entrance to the park. Last time we used the road from Port Elizabeth through Addo village to the main entrance it was in very poor condition and therefore I would not recommend it to you. You will love Addo Regards JDW

Personally I would skip the town of Addo and enter the park through the southern Colchester gate. If you are coming through on the N2, when you reach Port Elizabeth to take the first freeway exit to the left and there is a small shopping complex containing a Food Lovers Market. You can buy all your required goods there and be back on the N2 easily. The southern Colchester gate is just 20-25 minutes away and you will be in the park. Probably a good idea to pack a cooler bag/box and some ice.
