The Cambedoo National Park reminds us of the late Eve Palmer who was best known to us for her books The Plains of Camdeboo and Return to the Cambedoo. In both books she wrote in a uniquely vivid manner of life on their family farm near Pearston in the Karoo – the food, the animals, the insects, the wild flowers and the wealth of fossils. She was also one of the authors of the volumes of books - The Trees of Southern Africa. She and her late husband Geoffrey Jenkins co-wrote one book, The Companion Guide to Southern Africa. To this day this is for me one of the most beautifully written South African travel books. In this book their visits, amongst others, to their beloved Kruger National Park is brightly described. I think that she would have been very proud of the Cambedoo National Park. Her writing skills are sadly missed - Eve Palmer went before us in October 1998.

Thanks for the lovely reference there, Grantmissy. I always find the Camdeboo one of the most mysteriously exciting places I've ever been to, so to read a work that describes this area possibly as vividly as I recall it, is a must for my reading list! I'll start with 'The Plains of Camdeboo' and take it from there. I always am thrilled by great writing!
