:gflower: A bouquet of wildflowers to you all for this outstanding web-site! Please advise me on which of the Cape Parks regions would be most spectacular in the spring of early October? I do know it depends on the rains etc. each particular year and can vary.

But anyone with a crystal ball please chime in! We've got our whole trip booked with flights and accommodations in Cape Town, the west coast, and the Cederberg area for our September/October trip. But we have 6 more nights to book which fall in very early October. Still torn between these regions:
Overberg
Little Karoo

Will the spring of early October be more amazing in the Overberg region or the Little Karoo region? Both regions have parks and nature!

I think we will skip the Garden Route parks on this trip because we just can't do it all! A zillion thanks! My husband is a biologist and I'm a writer. We are excited about exploring the amazing parks in South Africa and hope to see the fynbos blooming and wildflowers etc.

Overberg for me BW.

Little Karoo is a summer rainfall area, and might still be dry.

Overberg includes the delightful Bontebok NP, and some Cape parks that I presume it is ok to mention here as they are Wild Card parks, like De Hoop, Grootvadersbosch, and are not too far from each oter.

De Hoop is a great place to spot Southern right whales from the beach and GVB is great for forest hiking. There is a plantation of redwoods there.

Bontebok allows you to get close to these lovely antelope.

All are great for birding.

Bushbaptist, Thanks for your info. It sure is hard to decide, with so many great parks! We keep going back and forth. But the whole trip is planned, except for this part that we are a bit stuck on. I thought if I could get more info on which parks have the best springtime in early october, it might help swing the decision.

We have enjoyed many great photos that you all have shared on this web-site!

And the West Coast National Park is very good for Spring flowers (and has some game) but I think September is the right time there. Never been there in October. What do the West Coast mites think? It is near to Langebaan where we caravan in September and plenty accommodation available. See my PM for info on spring flowers in September up the west coast.

Late August - early September is spring flower time.

In October the gale force south easter heralds the real spring in the Cape.

We will see the West Coast National Park in September! We'll be in the West Coast around mid-September. Next the Cederberg, and then we base ourselves in Cape Town for a week. Lots of day-trips from Cape Town to see the surrounding parks! And last..by early October, we will be in either the Little Karoo area or the Overberg.

Matthys: If we do the Overberg, I will make note of the Agulhas National Park for sure. Thanks for the links.

So if I'm understanding this correctly...is it true that the Little Karoo is dry in spring (early October)? I thought maybe it would be spring and blooming. I guess it can't bloom with no rain. There is a national park in the little Karoo area which I thought I read is closed in early October but I may have read this info wrong.

Thanks you all!

Check this website for Tankwa Karoo NP. See if it is within your range.

Also further Karoo NP.

But I would plump for Bontebok NP & Agulhas NP.
