Tankwa Karoo weather

Unread postby GayeD » Thu Jan 17, 2013 6:21 pm

Hi there - we're planning a trip to the Tankwa Karoo in October this year, two families of two adults and two teenagers each, and would like advice about the weather at that time of the year and the likely condition of the roads. Would we need to travel in 4x4s to access routes in the park? Would Elandsberg be a good choice for both families to be together comfortably, or do you recommend moving around in the park and using other accommodation? We will be travelling from Cape Town so advice on the most interesting route (we enjoy back roads and meanders) would also be very welcome. Thank you - GayeD

We went to Tankwa during October 2011 and we enjoyed it thoroughly. We camped in their wild camps and found that very rewarding. Some of them you need a 4x4 for. The others can be done with a sedan. Best is to find out from the website which of the camps will suit your purpose. To answer your question about the weather, follow the link below to see some of the pictures we took and from them you will be able to judge. Some days were very hot. ... 5400542081
