We are visiting Cape Town over New Year and want to visit the penguins. Do we need to book tickets before we come , or can we just turn up on the day?
Thanks

You just need to turn up. if you have a wild card you get in free. I think its normally about R40 each to get in.We went over the festive season last year with the grand children and as we were faily ealy it was nice and quiet.
There is also another Non Sanparks Penquin colony in Bettys bay .

Although a visit along the boardwalk is well worth doing, remember that Pingu's relatives don't know about Sanparks, so can be found all around the area, so a stroll along the public footpaths to the South can also be rewarding

We spent a very pleasant afternoon there last year.

As Hugh said, no need to book and free if you have a Wildcard.

Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

Hi Everyone

We will be visiting the Cape in July and I would also like to see the Penguins. I am not sure of where you are talking about. I have a Wildcard so I just need some direction please.

Hi there Wildkyker

The Penguins are at Foxy Beach close to Simons Town or Boulders beach right next to Foxy.

Just drive towards and, then through Simons Town. About 2 minutes after Simons Town look out for the signs saying Penguins to your left.

Since you have a Wildcard, try both Foxy and Boulders.

Foxy is the breading colony. You will walk along erected boardwalks and may not go down to the beach, but you will see hundreds of them. From there you can walk to Boulders which is also SANParks, so you will be able to go in with your Wildcard. There are much less penguins, but you may go down onto the beach and the penguins do come up close to visitors. During summer they even swim between bathers and one missed me by centimetres.

Enjoy

Wildkyker, Leaping Lizard is spot on.

Another place is Stony Point close to Kleinmond or in Betty's Bay area, if you find yourself in that part of the Cape during your visit. :D

The Stony Point colony in Betty's Bay is rather nice and there are many other Cape endemic birds in the area.
