Are there roads accessible by car in the park?

There is a road from the lighthouse along the coast, but I don't think that there are as yet any roads that you can drive within the rest of the park. There was a devastating fire in this park a few months ago and the buildings that were being rennovated to provide a few units of accomodation within the park were badly damaged.

It is a worthwhile park to visit IMO, altho the area has changed greatly between my two visits (November 1984 and Ocotber 2009). I remembered Agulhas as being very remote in 1984, when the only place to stay was a very basic hut at a camping ground in Struisbaai, but now the whole area is quite built up. But the rocky coast is still dramatic and the lighthouse has been restored. And there are still some remains of a wrecked Japanese fishing vessel, altho considerably less of it remains than in 1984. I was planning to do a then-and-now TR about Agulhas but I've just not had time

is it possible to get good views of whales from the park? We'll be staying at Hermanus on the nights of the 3rd (prob arriving lunchtime), and 4th but also have a shark dive booked in for the 4th. We'd pencilled in seeing Agulhus on the 5th before going on to Cape town, and we'd like to maybe fit in some boat based whale watching if we can (although looking at our schedule we might not be able too) .

Any thoughts most appreciated.

Hermanus is arguably the best place to see whales, and Agulhas not really. There is a Cape park, which is part of the Wild Card family, called De Hoop, not that far from Agulhas, and it has a place (Koppie Aleen) which is also reputed to be great for whales.

Like all wild life, there are no guarantees.

Thanks for the information. How much time should we allow ourselves at Agulhus?

There are lots of whales to be seen at L'Agulhas.The difference between Hermanus and L'Agulhas is that L'Agulhas is flat country and you need height to see the whales.There are boattrips available at Struisbaai/L'Agulhas but you can do that at Hermanus as well.

Awesome! I hope they ill still be around when we get there. We're arriving on Sunday I've never seen whales before.

I stand corrected

Anyone know how far the new chalets are from the beach at Agulhas? I can't work out where they are on the map.
