Rasperspunt trail at Agulhas

Unread postby annie R » Fri Mar 18, 2011 5:47 pm

We were recently at Agulhas National Park and couldn't believe the changes since our last visit more than a decade ago. There's so much to see and do, e.g. the lighthouse, the cairn marking the most southern tip of Africa, the fishing harbour at Struisbaai nearby, the shipwreck museum at Bredasdrop on your way to the park, fishing, walking, and so on.

But a highlight for us was definitely the Rasperspunt Hiking Trail, which is just 5.5km long and gives you a chance to combine exercise with stunning sea views, some fynbos and some history. It's a combination that is rare in SANParks across the country. For more info, see the blog below...

we are going to Agulhas at the end of september and we would like to do a trail.
We will be sleeping in Lagoon House.

I haven't found any map with this trail, do you know where I can find one??In which area of the park is it situated?

Thanks a lot

sanyrob, you can buy (R5 I think it is) a brochure on the trail, giving you info on each point, at the tourist info centre at the foot of the lighthouse. It's only about 5.5 km long and you can't miss it as you drive from the lighthouse down to Lagoon House. Just look out for the rusty old shipwreck and that's where it starts. It makes a lovely early morning walk. I suggest, though, that you find out when low tide is and try to time your walk for then otherwise you won't be able to see the old Khoi fish traps.
Hope you enjoy it and everything else about the park. Lagoon House has a stunning setting right on the edge of the sea so you'll have a stunning view.

We were at Lagoon house this weekend. Absolutely fantastic! Sitting next to the sea during a mini-storm, with a fire roaring and quality linen and furniture and wide windows for a nearly 270 degree view....
