Postberg is not yet open.

It opens on 1 Aug, or will it be earlier this year?

Hi all!
Might Postberg (still) be open at around 1st of september - that´s when we will be around Cape Town this year an I have never been to WCNP so far. I guess I can do a day trip from Blaubergstrand to WCNP? Does it "fill" a whole day?

Yes Postberg will be open, it is open until 30 September. And it is an easy drive to WCNP from Blaubergstrand, should take you only about an hour (I love the whole drive north on the R27, there are some lovely visitas). WCNP is one of my favourite places and I can easily spend a full day there . You can take a picnic and enjoy your lunch on one of the Atlantic beaches, either Tsaarbank in the main park or Plankiesbaai inside the Postberg reserve. Or if you don't feel like picnicing, there is as excellent restaurant at Geelbek.

There are many birds to see as well as the flowers, plus several sorts of antelope and if you're lucky, Cape mountain zebra. Extra lucky and you might spot a caracal. Take your time and explore slowly, as you'll have an easy drive back to Blaubergstrand after park closing time. I usually stay until closing as the sunsets in WCNP can be magic.

Enjoy your trip! I often visit WCNP several times when I'm in the Cape.

Thank you Arks for this encouraging answer . I think if time will allow us to do so we will spend our one day there in WCNP. In fact this will be the final experience of our 4.5 weeks Namibia-South Africa trip for this year! Only 16 day and the little rest of today left

Hi Siis, and welcome on the forum! Yes indeed the high flower season is nearly on us, but you can already see flower patches along all the roads in the Langebaan area. Postberg area withing the WCNP will open on 1 August 2009 to the last day of September 2009 and I guarantee you, it is the most amazing place to have a look at the flowers of our region. Here is a small taste of the bigger picture that you would experience!!!

That´s truely impressive!! So far I only know the Namaqualand from three september trips - but this area seems to be a must-do for this year. So I am going to change my Cape Town plans and save a day for Postberg and surroundings.

Hi,
I am working in Iran and visit Brittania bay at 17 August. Am a correct as a say that the flowers in the park where the same as in Garies. Only you do not drive so far out. (got only 3-4 Days)
Any nearby places a can visit also for flowers. How late do the gates open . How long do you drive in park? Km Map available?

I went out into the 'country; yesterday on a bird count. Some floers were already out. It is going to be a great flower season, but it might end early, if they all come out early. 10 Sept might just see the last.

Notice the new bird hide at Abrahamskraal. The reeds you see have now been removed to give one a better view.

Posters on this thread have mentioned that Geelbeck gives a good meal. Just to let you know that over weekends, during flower season, there is a tuck shop at Tsaarsbank as well as a bookstore and an info centre. Please support us.

@Johan2 - Welcome to the forum. You drive 36kms from the Langebaan gate to the Postberg gate. In total you would do apprx 90kms in a the park. Most of the flowers are in Postberg so too the animals - Gemsbok, Springbok, Kudu, Blou Wilderbeest, Bat Eared Fox and more. Views of the Atlantic and lagoon along the way are stunning. We have 4 bird hides en route. Not sure about gate times but I think they open at 6.30am and close at 6.30pm. I can confirm later. Free pamflet with a map available at the gate.

Can a buy the wild card at Gate , or must I apply for it before hand.
Can you go into Postberg, the San Park map show it is resticted or do I read it wrong .It do not show any roads on it.

Hi Johan and Welcome!

Yes, you can buy your WildCard at the park gate and you will be given a pamphlet which shows all the roads. There are definitely several roads within the Postberg section!

As for opening times, I believe that the gate opening time is 07h00 or even 07h30 now , closing time is 18h30. The hours given on my pamphlet (not 100% reliable, best to check locally) for Postberg hours are 09h00 - 17h00.

@Tony T - Where has the photo with the flamenco been taken? End dec. 2010 we will probably be coming your way and when we get a little close I will probably submerge you with questions i.e. if you don't mind

@Micetta -- not TonyT but the pic is taken on the Langebaan Lagoon side of the WCNP (as opposed to the Atlantic side)

Thank you Pam - So you are a connaisseur too of the WCNP? I want to go next time..... In fact at the moment I am doing a bit of witch crafting, i.e. I do not want to wait for 2010/11 when there is a nice South African summer coming up in dec/jan 2009/10 At the moment I have arrived in Southern Africa having started in Morocco- not too bad
