The Wilderness Camps ( 4 units/8 persons) in KTP always get fully booked as soon as the bookings open. The twice we have been to KTP, I was at the SANParks satellite booking office at 7.00 a.m. on the day the bookings opened (i.e. 11 months before the month we wanted to go), to get in the queue to place my request as soon as the computers were up and running at 7.30 a.m.! By the time I got home, around 9.00 a.m., all the Wilderness Camps were fully booked!!

As others have said above, keep checking - cancellations do often happen but you must then be quick to grab it.

Urikaruus is a stunning camp and it is a privilege to get a booking there!! Just keep trying.

I think that you should check every day, Korshinab and keep on doing so.
Wishing you success in finding a cancellation

I have a booking for 4 nights in March next year that I am trying to swop, failing that will cancel closer to the time. So cancellations do happen!

I also had the same issue and frustrated that when I booked in June for my trip in Novemeber not a single night available in this camp. I take advice from fellow mites and keep checking almost every day and had no joy until suddenly this morning I see quite a few openings for Urikaruss in Nov. I managed to change my itinerary this morning on my online booking.

So has anyone got any ideas why these camps are always full brut they suddenly seem to open up?

My only guess is tour operators do block bookings for which they don't have to pay until a few weeks before the actual booking is for. Then they don't have guests so they release the bookings. A bit frustrating but at least I persevered and got it this morning. For my nov trip. Also had the same issue with KK and managed to get a booking today.

katanga, I appreciate your concern. But remember the Wilderness Camps only have 4 two-bedded tents, huts, whatever each. I doubt that they get booked by tour operators, but rather by people who manage to get to a reservation office very early on the day bookings open.

I have done that - got into the queue at Reservation House at 6.45 a.m. and just managed to get my booking. Then I broke my ankle two weeks before trip and had to postpone the trip - and the accommodation suddenly became available. People do have genuine crises and have to cancel/postpone their bookings.

Just keep checking and you might get lucky.

Urikaruus is the most popular of the wilderness camps - with good reason. The waterhole in front of the camp is very productive, day & night, and 'action' (like hyenas killing a gnu under one of the units) happens from time to time.
Whatever (according to BB): "You are correct but I don't want to admit it".

yes,but is not possible . I HAVE check every day from october until july and is always 0000000000
I also think must be agency that have choose this wilderness camp for their tour and clients because: 1 is close to the south within the itinerary "easy" 2 no needs 4wd , all the other Wild. Camp are far and 4wd
Also the others have only 4 chalets, place i have heard of 6 lions hanging around in grootkolk for days...........is not fot the sight, must be a reason.
