Hi Panekoek.
I have found this route the quickest and best roads.
N12 George-Oudtshoorn-Beaufort West-N1 to Three Sisters-N12 to Victoria West-Britstown-N10 to Prieska-Groblershoop-Upington.Then KTP.
It is 1250kms from Plett to Twee Rivieren.About a 12 and a half hour drive including stops.
We normally sleep over just after Groblershoop at a lovely inexpensive guestfarm overlooking the Orange River.Let me know if you need the name,I will PM you.
This leaves about 350kms for the next day and allows for a stop in Upington for fuel and to buy any fresh stuff.

There is a very good UltraCity on the N1 at Three Sisters just before you turn off to Victoria West.
Clean rest rooms, restaurant, parking and picnic area.

Have done this route many times and over the years the roads have really improved.
Made all the stop-go's worthwhile.
During our trip in May this year there were almost no roadworks at all except for the N1 near Beaufort West.
Hope this helps and shout if you need any other info.

Thanks so much for the reply.

I think what I am going to do is stay in Beufort West for 2 nights, check out the Karoo NP (I have never been there before) and then just leave at 3AM and do the drive straight to Upington and then TR.

Kind regards

Ari

We'll be traveling to KTP (sleeping over at Upington) from Stilbaai in Dec. We were also thinking of taking the advised route, but also wanted an opinion on it. So thanks, enrico, helps us a lot too!

@panekoek.
Karoo Nat Park is a real gem.Sure you will enjoy it.
If you are in a chalet breakfast is included in the rate,so if you intend to leave very early ask for a breakfast box-padkos the night before.
It is about 900kms to TR from Karoo NP.

One thing to look out for are speedtraps. :rtm:
I have never seen one on the open road but they will definately be lurking in the 60kmph zones as you enter and leave the small towns enroute.
There are also a number of permanent cameras either side of Beaufort West on the N1.

Enjoy your trips.

We have often slept in Karoo before going up
We leave after breakfast, which starts at 7H00 and always arrived in Upington around 12-13H00
and we did not speed at all (waste of money to pay a fine); the road is so quiet it is an easy drive
