No. 2

Then again around the 27 December 2011, we were braaing (this time in Twee Tivieren, unit no. 3) - around 20:00 when the tourism manager, Dupel Erasmus, popped by to warn us there was a Leopard seen in the camp and we should keep at look out. 10 Minutes after he left, it walk out from between unit no 1 and 2 (there was no people staying in those units or they were inside). It walk off in the grass towards the dunes on the east side of the camp.

Hey Shane,

That's the one I was referring to in my earlier posts.

Also last time my son was in 2R (the only time until 2 weeks from today) he got up early and in the pre dawn gloom saw a huge hyena walk along the front of the units Shane said.

Thank you BB, now I know NOT to walk around inside TR campsite without being on 'high alert'! Your time is now fast approaching, so get the lenses ready!

These pictures of the male lion at Campsite No 5 were taken by Bea St Arnaud during their visit to Rooiputs in December 2011.

I believe there are many stories to be told (and photos) of the Rooiputs lions!

Thanks Fmj.

We are getting excited now. 2 weeks and an hour or 2 and I will be 'surprising' KG in his office.

Your lions are in the best shade in the whole Rooiputs vicinity

Ask Weskusklong about them. He had a close encounter.

What happens if you have campsite no 5 and mr lion is there, do you sit and watch him until he decides to go, or do you sleep in the car

Explain to him that it is your campsite and I am sure he will be reasonable and move off!

BB I'm not going anywhere close enough to that lion to explain anything, I've read to much on the forum of those kalahari lions that try to eat your car :D

It is the 'teenagers' that 'play' with tyres and soft car bits. These older chaps are more mellow. But they like their shade.

No wonder leopards like to shelter in people's tents at Rooiputs because these magnificent specimens are around.......

Thank you very much Blackie for posting these really stunning 'waterhole' photos! Judging from the angle you took those beautiful lion photos, the waterhole must be Craig Lockhart. The first waterhole (Sitsas) from MM is away from the road and at the 2nd, Craig Lockhart one can drive a little closer and to the right of the waterhole.

@ Aristocat: Enjoy your stay in just more than a month, but remember to zip up your tent at Leeudril....and bring back those special sightings photos!

When was the cheetah sequence taken Blackie?
We saw a cheetah mum with 3 small cubs 2 years ago in Feb between KijKij & Melkvlei - on a freshly killed springbok.

BB, that was taken in April last year - could be the same family you saw a year before.

Blackie.

It is a good (unprovable) bet!
