Just because a waterhole is dry, it does not mean you should just race past. This last December holiday we stayed in Nossob for a couple of nights. One morning we drove north and had a wonderfull sighting of a brown hyena at Bedinkt. We decided to keep going north, and got to Langklaas waterhole. Those of you that know the area will know that the waterhole is a little off the road. There was also a sign at the entrance road stating that the waterhole is dry. I decided to drive past, but my kids all moaned and said they wanted to go see the dry waterhole. Oh well - don't feel like listening to this, so i might as well take a quick detour.....

Could you believe there were three beautiful young male lions lying in the road next to the dry waterhole. We sat taking photos, and watched as one after the other vehicle went racing past.

You can just imagine how "windgat" the kids were after this sighting.....

Welcome to this thread jb72 and what a great choice you made to listen to your kids. You never know in KTP! Wonderful "private waterhole" sighting and great photos, thank you for posting. I can see from your profile that you are from the beautiful Sabie. Hopefully we will visit KNP (for a change) in September. @ gatita: what a luck to spot a leo in a waterhole in broad daylight! Well done!

Thanks Johan. Usually I only have to listen to my wife, but now the kids think they know better too....

You should give us a shout when you visit knp again. I spend quite a lot of time there, so would love to meet up for a quick hello.

I have booked my accomodation in KTP for this December too, so can't wait for it.

I'll share some more photos over the weekend. (If I don't spend too much time in Kruger.... )
