You should definitely go to Urikaruus.

We had our best lion sighting here in september 2012.

They entertained us for nearly two hours.

Good Afternoon,

It is just amazimg what you see on special places. During day time we saw 1998 on a Tree an AWC. The place was the Waterhole Sitzas (between Tentet Camp and Mata Mata). In KTP I didn´t have an close encounter with Predators on Picnic Sites, but well who knows... . I only saw some Tracks of Lions e.g. Tented Camp, but not the animal.

This Camp Site is very special for me, because once I had an very funny encounter with an Mongoose. My friend and some Members of my Family was sitting on the Balkony of the Chalets, eating and relaxing, evenso it was Winter it was quite hot (we are comming from Germany and Temperatures over 20° are hot for us ;-) ). At one point a Fox Mongoose came up and was begging for Food. We haven´t feed them of course, because its either against the rule and my Moral. This little animal was very naughty and created a little revange. Without fear he/she went to a good freind of mine, which was wearing Sandals and no Socks and bite him in the Tow. It wasn´t bad, it didn´t bleed, but I will never forget the face. It was just funny and I lought my head off. My freind wasn´t very amused and he was scarred about Rabies. After a little talk with the Ranger his fear was nearly gone.

Anyway it musn´t always be the big Game who will keep you busy, small animals can do it too.

Best Regards
Malealea

Thank you for a very entertaining and interesting story Malealea! I can just imagine your friend's face! I had a good laugh now, but I agree, one should find out about the possibility of rabies or whatever!

Good to hear from you again!

Hi there,

Yes it´s true, I have done it on purpose, because I haven´t been to South Africa for a while, so I don´t have Up to Date informations. Befor I tell something wrong, I prefer to be quiet ;-) . Apart from That I have lived a couple of month in Namibia.... .

When I read that post I recognised, that the most Stories were Lion Stories. And indeed it was a very serious matter (The woman who encountred the Lion in a Loo...). My Aim was it, to bring a little humor in. Because some encountres are just humoristic.

Best regards Malealea

This thread is becoming very entertaining and informative! Thank you both Gatita for those nice photos taken at Urikaruus and for your the entertaining story Malealea. I wonder what would have happened if that lion accidentally opened that gas bottle?

Thank you everyone else for your wonderful contributions - keep on posting please!

Hi there,

First I wasn´t sure at all If I should post it or not. Because of the matter of being off-topic. But after the great Feedback, i know that I haven´t done a mistake.

Hi Hilda,

you are right. Just to say Hello i should come along. SAN Parks is not the only Forum i partizipate, but in some others they knocked me off. Therefor I think twice if and what I gonna post. If I have nothing to say I´ll be quit  . It´s all a question of experience .... .

It´s a pitty that this topic is specialised on KTP because in Kruger I could tell a funny Storie about Baboons in the Camp. If you wish to hear plaese tell me, but to tell you in Advance it happened in a SANPark but not KTP.

Malealea, why don't you then start a topic on what you experienced in KNP? We love to hear all the 'mites interesting, funny or even serious experiences in any of the SANParks! I promise you, on this Forum, nobody will "knock you off"! :D

If you like reading other 'mites travel tales, you can comment on their posts on a daily basis, and so keep in touch with what is happening in the Parks, what other 'mites have experienced, how they do things, etc. You can give your inputs, or just tell them how much you have enjoyed their trip reports! And you can also enjoy all their wonderful pictures!

I wonder what would have happened if that lion accidentally opened that gas bottle?

Actually there is a story to that gas bottle.
When we got up and wanted to make coffee, we realized that we ran out of gas. Thus, the SO drove (it was before 6:30 am) to the attendants unit to ask him to bring a new gas bottle. When he returned we noticed that we had a flat tyre and at the same time the lions showed up. We told Eric about it and he dropped the gas bottle right in front of his unit where it was investigated later by that lion.
After a while we were longing for coffee. We had very nice neighbours who were kind enough to heat some water for us. Fortunately Urikaruus has walkways between the units.
When the lions left, Eric installed the new gas bottle at our unit. He was not even finished, when the lions returned. This time they did not stay that long. Eric then helped us to change the tyre assisted by the SO while I was on the watch out for the lions all the time. We are still wondering today, if the flat tyre was caused by the lions as well.
