What can/can't I bring from Namibia into SA via Mata Mata?

Hi all, will be crossing from Namibia into Kgalagadi TP for the first time and I am not sure what the latest information is on bringing meat/wood/wine/veggies etc. I plan to stock up for 12 nights in the park at Keetmanshoop and would not want to loose half of it at Mata Mata. Thanks Pen

Hi Penolva,

As far as I know you are not allowed to bring in wood from Namibia but you can bring in food stuffs, there is just a police control point on the south african side at Mata-Mata and you have to stamp your entry into South Africa at Tweerivieren...

Hi Pen,

As George has posted no Fire Wood.

Also NO Maize meal may be brought into SA from Namibia.

When entering SA from Namibia each person in the car may bring in 10kg of biltong and 25kg of red meat.

NO pork can be brought into SA.

Per person you may bring in 2 cartons of cigarettes, 2 liters of wine and 1 liter of strong alcohol.

Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

I was interested in the same question going from SA into Namibia via Mata Mata and I was also told 25kg meat and then not too much fresh stuff going in that direction probably not as strict coming into SA - they are wanting to limit cross border shopping in the other direction. Also need to remember unabridged birth certificates for all kids and papers for cars (proof of ownership and insurance)
