Hi Ice,

Aww thats such a terrible sighting to witness, one can assume that the lioness got injured during territorial fighting, a new pride male that wanted to stamp down his authority etc.

A few years ago I saw an injured lioness at Dalkeith waterhole too, but she died the same day. :(

ice,

It is always the best to report such sighting to the ranger at the nearest camp and in this instance to the ranger at Mata-Mata? This action leads to an immediate follow up.

Although days passed since the sighting, I will inform SANParks PR asap to communicate with the Park Manager and will post their findings here  .

Dear ice,

The response from the rangers in Kgalagadi is that nobody reported the injured lioness near Dalkeith yet.

Although it is always sad to see an animal suffer, the rangers will not intervene except when the injury occurred as a result of human behaviour.
