Hi pwven, have just returned today from ktp   and we saw some ordinary saloon cars in the area so you should have no problems, just take it slowly and watch out for the deeper sand patches.

Take care wherever you are.

PF.

Yep, just returned today from KTP. I really didn't see any major issues with the roads. Infant saw some rather small sedans using the road to Nossob quite comfortably. In fact all the way to Unions end was good.

Enjoy.

Softroader is perfect... I assume its and SUV so even better (higher sitting position will give better views over the burm on either side of the road). I did KTP in a Nissan X Trail a few times. It was great and worked well as a softroader SUV

Just spent 11 days in KTP and the roads were in the best condition that I have ever experienced.

Hi, we are going to KTP in September for the first time and I was wondering if we need a 4x4? We will be staying in Nossob, Mata Mata, TR, Kalahari Tented camp and Bitterpan. What car would you recommend?
Thanks

Pretty sure the track to Bitterpan is 4x4 only.

Yes track to Bitterpan is 4x4 only - lots of deep sand and sand dunes. We did it mostly in high range 4x4 but I did go into low range 4x4 on one dune.

Hi MiaMouse,

A warm welcome to the forums! :gflower:

As the rest have told you, you'll need a 4X4. Whether a Bakkie or a SUV depends on your needs.

Enjoy the trip, it's a magical place!!

With all the recent rains in the park can you still drive to Nossob and Mata Mata in a sedan?

When we were there weekend 15th&16th March sedans couldn't drive from Nossob to Marta Marta, in fact we met 3 ladies who had to leave the park and spend the night at Kalahari Lodge as they couldn't get across the dunes and Twee Rivieren was full.
