Kgalagadi: Walks Q and A

Unread postby HappyHippo » Wed Aug 11, 2010 3:05 pm

Hello,

I couldn't find anything on this topic - so forgive me if I overlooked it.

We will be at KTP for the first time this coming October and I was wondering if morning bush walks are offered in one of the big camps and if so where I could make a reservation?

Thanks for your help!

I am of the understanding that morning walks are only available on request once you are in the park. They take place , depending if there are guides available at the time and if there is sufficient interest. We did one on request a couple of years back, however it was arranged when we were there and there were enough of us. There needs to be 2 guides and there were 8 of us doing the walk.
I will give the park a call for you tomorrow and establish if it is still the same procedure and will post the reply here.

Happy Hippo, not the news you wanted to hear!!
At this stage , no walks are taking place in the park. They do not have sufficient guides
They could not give me any indication at all when the situation would change , just the fact the walks are no longer on offer!!
Such a huge pity but don't let that stop you from visiting the park.
If there is sufficient interest, they do have early morning drives which leave the camp a half hour before the usual gate opening times. Duration of 3 hours at R145 per person.
Enjoy you visit

Hello Dreamer,

Thank you so much for finding out, that was awfully nice of you!

Too bad of course they are no longer offered but that won't stop me from
going there - just booked this past weekend and can't wait to go
and maybe until I get there (late October) they resumed those walks?.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Just to let you know that Walks are been done from the camps again. Please note that in the event where a morning drive has been booked a walk will not go out since the guide has taken the drive out but at TR the walks will go out even if a drive is out as well.

I think Dreamer will confirm that a walk in KTP is worth the while.....

Bruce,

I would suggest you book in advance, you can do that with me and I will see that it gets onto the booking sheet. let me just know from which camp you would like to do the walk from.

Please note that it would be very difficult to do walks from the outside camps but will be possible from Nossob,Mata-Mata, Twee Rivieren and Kalahari Tented Camp.

Hi Jannie, you really are on the ball with your replies! Is there any chance that I can book for 5 of us to do morning walks from Nossob on Tuesday 5th October and Friday 8th October? Walks are such a great way to really get a sense of where you are - there is always so much to see on the ground that you don't see from a vehicle.
