Mokala: activities?

Unread postby annie R » Fri Jul 09, 2010 6:33 pm

I know that Mokala is already offering sunset and night drives, but can anyone tell me if the other activities they were talking about are on the menu yet? I'm specifically interested in knowing about day walks, mountain biking and bush braais. Any forumites have first-hand experience of these yet?
Thanks

Thanks for the speedy reply, Dotty. Yes, I looked on Mokala's site but I know that it's outdated copy because I've actually been on a sunset drive there, even though the website is still talking about it as a 'future' activity that 'will be' introduced. I'll check out the TR's in the meantime, as you suggest...

We were there 3 weeks ago and had a lovely bush lunch under an old tree near a dam. This included a game drive of nearly 2 hours and was brilliant! It was done specifically for Fathers' Day, but I believe they have it more regularly.

Thanks, Bekke. I phoned them yesterday to double check and here's the low-down for others who are interested. They do currently offer sunset and night drives as well as bush braais. Day walks and mountain biking are apparently still in the planning stages. Something to look forward to...

Mokala offers - night drives (at half the price of equivalent parks like m zebra / karoo but twice as long!) / a bush braai combined with a night drive / fly fishing and white water rafting in the lilydale section which should soon be linked to the rest of the park. Endangered species drives are also offered. Not sure about walks but you can speak to Tess the very helpful hospitality manager to confirm.

We did the night drive and had spectacular sightings:
A 10 minute sighting of a caracal
A 5 minute sighting of an aardwolf right next to the road!

We also spotted a huge cape cobra, tsessebe, roan antelope, b b jackal and buffalo on a day drive.
