Sounds wonderful!

We have to wait 6 weeks, I think everything is over then...
But it will be nice and green, like last year in March.

Thank you for the updates Kgalagadi Guru!

Is the water already in the KTP or outside the border in the Aoub river? Sorry it is a stupid question.

THeuns, it sounds like the water has 15 km to go to get to MM.

Morning All,

I have just spoklen to staff at Mata-Mata. As with all incidents there are so many stories going around. The staff is waiting for one of the farmers in Namibia to come and advise them where the water is, they will inform me as soosn as they get the info.

It has been raining hard at Mata-Mata since 19h00 last night and hasnt stopped. Heavy rainfall is expected opn the Namibian side for the next few days.

Will keep you updated.

Yes BB thank you, I have noticed that. I see on the KTP map that Mata Mata is on the Western border of the Park. My question is as follows: Is 15 km's upstream in the Aoub River from Mata Mata inside the KTP or outside the KTP? My reason for this question is to find out if the gritters in KTP is going to benefit from the water in the Aoub River if the water stays 15 km's away from Mata Mata. In other words if the water stays 15 km's away from Mata Mata in the Aoub River the gritters will benefit if that point is inside KTP, if not they will not benefit.

Hi all,

anybody knows about the situation in the Nossob River?? If there's water running in the stream, the webcam would document that! We could see it live, as long as it happens during the daytime...

Could anyone place a webcam in the hide in Mata Mata? I guess you could have more spectators than South African Idol... :D

Herewith some detail regarding the Aoub taken from Toutrism Namibia website.

STILL UNCERTAIN WHETHER THE WATER WILL REACH THE KGALAGADI TRANSFRONTIER PARK
Willie Olivier
The Auob River, one of only two ephemeral rivers flowing through the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, has reached its highest level in more than a decade – but it is still uncertain whether it will reach the park.
The level of the river began rising sharply last weekend at Stampriet, near its source, and reached the settlement of Gochas, 72 km downstream, on Wednesday afternoon.
The General Manager of the Auob Country Lodge, Maureen De Villiers, told Tour Namibia this morning, the river was flowing the full width of its course and the water level was still rising.
De Villiers said the campsite at the lodge was flooded yesterday (Wednesday, 26 January) afternoon and that the rising level of the river has since forced the lodge to close the campsite.
She said the level of the Auob was about 1 m below the causeway at Gochas early yesterday evening, but this morning the river was flowing strongly over the causeway – preventing some of the learners at the village from getting to school.
De Villiers expects the river to begin subsiding in about two day’s time.
Meanwhile, Mr Jannie van der Merwe of the farm Kinkel near the Mata Mata border has told Tour Namibia the flood water is not expected to reach the border before Monday – if the flow is strong enough.
The Auob River is a vital component of the Kgalagadi ecosystem as the subterranean water supports a lush growth of Camel Thorn trees. Regular floods are essential to recharge the underground water which is extracted to provide water to the herds of Springbok, Gemsbok (Oryx), Blue Wildebeest and Red Hartebeest occurring along its course.
Water of the Auob River last reached the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the year 2000. The Auob River eventually joins the Nossob River at Twee Rivieren at the park’s southern entrance.

The Aoub River currently in Namibia.

Hello I am from Germany and new in this forum.

We will travel to Namibia next week and want to visit first KTP.
We are planning via Stampriet/Gochas to enter KTP at Mata Mata.
Because of the flowing Aoub River and may be floodings we are not sure if we can make this.

Is there anybody how can tell me if there will be a problem or if we have to change our plans.

Thanks for help
J.R.

Entering Mata Mata is no problem. I don't think the water will be deep enough to cause problems on the roads.

are there any news if the Aoub River reaches Mata Mata and if the road from Namibia is negotiable?

Thanks

I have been in contact with NAMWATER (Namibia Water Corp), it seems to be a difficult task to try an dget up to date info regarding the river. The site you have mentioned I have been on and since the article there has been more rain on the Namibia side.

We have asked the managers of Mata-Mata to drive into Namibia to see what the state of the river is, I will let you know as soon as we have new information.

The water flow did not reach MM while I was there in spite of very good rain & a flooded camping area, but it was flowing between 13th borehole & Urikaruus. I saw the water trickling towards Ur myself.

If the water is flowing near Urikaruus, is it possible to pass the Revier to Kielie Krankie?
