I read somewhere here that Scorpions with fat tails and little pincers are the poisonous, small tails and large pincers not so bad. Apparently they store the poison in their tails?
Perhaps KG might know?

That's the way I understood it as well, Dotty. So the photo posted by Son godin is a non-venomous, well less venomous, one and the one AG posted a venomous one, if you follow that rule.

Thanks AG!

It's just so difficult to find Baboon Spiders. They're not exactly camera loving critters!

We're going to have fun. 8)

Hi Guinea Pig,

We had a scorpion in our accomodation at Kielie Krankie.
We discovered it in the evening, when it went from the bathroom under the bed :o
When we decided to try to catch him with a pot and put him outside, he had disappeared and we never learned where he went to. Nevertheless, we slept well :D
Later, at Nossob, we saw an information about scorpions at reception and there, it was also mentioned, as the others already told you, that big pincers and a small tail are less dangerous than small pincers and a bit tail.

On the terrace at Mata Mata, we saw at night a spider that might have been a small Red Roman. But I am not good at identifying spiders. We took a picture and as soon as I find it among our thousands of pictures, I could post it for ID.

Good luck.
Nina

You must hope for a windy evening. The scorpions appear out of nowhere if the wind starts blowing.
We were in Twee Rivieren one evening and with the wind of an approaching thunderstorm they were suddenly everywhere.

I hear they catch their normally flying prey who are then grounded because of the wind.

Be sure to get yourself a "scorpion torch" (ultra violet light). I bought mine on-line from a guy called Jonathan Leeming.

I'm sure a google search will reveal his contact details.

It makes finding scorpions a lot easier at night and my wife uses it while walking around.

Hi there Kakiebos....

The species you have mentioned is not a problem inside the chalets, although caution should always be first priority as they might come into the chalets. Spiders will be everywhere inside and out, Scorpions tend to stay outside (wear shoes at all times), same with snakes, they tend to stay outside.
