Road to Mata Mata on either side of the Border Post

Unread postby Floors » Sun Feb 09, 2014 5:32 pm

We have previously towed a 4x4 trailer in KTP and experienced no problems. Now we are considering a so-called "gravel road" caravan. Will we be able to take that from Namibia to Mata Mata and camp there for a week, just using our 4x4 vehicle to travel around inside the park and then exit again at Mata Mata. Depending on the state of the road we may be able to go to TR and exit into South Africa there or do you not recommend that?

We travelled from Mata Mata to Mariental in December and that road was definitely ok for a gravel roader.

The internal roads in the park can be a lottery and depending on when they've been graded can either be smooth enough for any vehicle or badly corrugated. In saying that, with enough caution you could get a gravel roader from Mata Mata to TR even with the corrugations, but it would be a slow journey!
