Hi all - thanks for all the advice given regarding the roads and a caravan. We have managed to get our entire booking transfered over to TR from Nossob. We leave in 9 sleeps !!! Cannot wait - we have been to Kruger and Addo plenty of times but this is our 1st trip to KTP !! We are going via 1 night in Namaqua - then 2 nights @ Augrabies then 9 nights @ TR. Will post a trip report and some pics when we get back ! We have bought a new digital camera as well. Any updates from anyone who has just been? - I have seen Droopy's report - was great.

Hi Matthew, Good call moving to TR, I would not take a caravan any further. We spent a week at TR only and had the most awesome sightings. Even saw the TR leopard stalk and catch a springbok! You will have a fantastic time.
In one of the local magazines I saw an article and pics where a guy attached and dragged a tyre just behind each of the two front tyres of his vehicle to "grade" the road surface for the caravan's tyres behind! 'n Boer maak 'n plan (A farmer makes a plan). Apparently it worked quite well. Maybe SANParks should supply a tractor tyre and those willing could drag it when they go out fo a drive!

We were going do a mixture of camping in a tent and fixed accommodation for our May 2010 trip. Due to circumstances tenting is no longer an option and we've also had to shorten our trip. Meantime we've acquired a small off-road caravan. We've changed our booking but at present can't get a camp site in MM so have to stick with our original 2 nights at KTC. Question: will we be able to park our caravan at KTC - is the parking area big enough? Or will we have to / be able to leave the 'van in some parking area at MM? .

I'm sure I've read this somewhere before, but cannot seem to find the answer (So I'm just going to have to ask again)
We are planning a camping trip up to KTP for the first week in September 2010 and are unsure if we should take a standard road-going caravan or hire an off-road trailer. It's the longest we would have camped as a family & I want a solid camping base to work with (Rather than our Campmaster tents).
Will a standard road-going caravan cope with the roads? (TR to MM to Nossob over a week) or would an off-road trailer work best?

Hi RichardS I don't have the time to find any of the many posts I have responded to re taking a normal caravan to KTP. They are probably in one of the threads Dotty has suggested. So, right now, short and sweet...FORGET about even thinking of taking a normal caravan!! Enjoy your trip.
