Hi there JimS,

I totally agree with your view point on Cubitji Cap as a possible photographers favorite.

You must however make use of that little track about 10 meters to the north of the waterhole, which will allow you to get in the late-afternoon-shade of those young Camel Thorn trees. From that vantage point . . . and the sun right behind you, can get up 5 meters away from the water.

There, you and your camera are out of the way of the ‘driving public ‘ . . . and avoiding that continuous questions of “what do you see . . . what do you see “

During June we spent a lot of time at that vantage point waiting for ‘our’ lioness (with the chipped left ear) to come to the water . . . from her den where she was hiding her 3 minute cubs close to the vantage point some 3 kms to the south. She however never came . . . and we were only rewarded with a very close-up sighting of a Brown Hyena, Jackal at the water, amidst the thousands of pigeons that was persistantly trying to get a quick drink in the late afternoon, while being hunted various raptors. The latter being a spectacle in itself.

Some nice pics of ‘our’ lioness on my website below . . . taken a year or three ago.

Photographic Safari

This is a very exciting new product; this activity will operate from a camp well in the dunes called Gemsbok Plein, from where guests will be taken out purely for photography. Walks and drives will be included in the price of R 625,00 p.p. Gemsbok Plein is situated close to Auchterlonie in prime game viewing area.
For more detail feel free to contact me.
