Maybe just maybe.
But the face was smaller in comparison with its body, the eyes bigger and more stripes on the back.
Got the idea that the stripes were more brown than white.
Think I found the correct picture from Google but how to upload is the question.

I wonder whether it may have beena genet?

It is a beautiful slender cat like animal.

Ok, due to lack of uploading, the body, coat, colour, stripes are like this (longish, brownish, few spots):

I will settle for a Genet, only because of the face features.

When seen at night and especially when moving the spots on the body forms a definite stripe.

Don't think you get civets in RNP, but genets and aardwolf possibly.

Where were you camping.

Leopard are occasionally heard at night also.

Saw the genet at Richtersberg campsite.

Will be in Mata Mata end of next week, then travel down to Twee Rivieren. What dens, regular sightings do I need to know about?
Obviously cheetah moms and cubs near veertiende boorgat, and leopard with cubs near Twee Rivieren.
What about hyena den near Urikaruus?
Any specially attractive male lions, cubs near Mata Mata?
Any other regular sightings would be appreciated!

When we were there in Feb the hyaena den was deserted - but we did see a VERY pregnant hyaena at 13th Boorgat.....so maybe it will be in use again soon!

As you said, cheetah mom's and cubs around 13th/14th.....

If you are interested in birds - look out for the Striped Kingfisher at 14th borehole - was seen by a few people for a few days when we were there, also check the riverbed near Achterlonie for Temminck's Coursers.

We were 9 days in the KTP this February. We did stay at Grootkolk for two days and did see every morning and evening Leopard and Heyna. :

Thanks for all the good info and news! I phoned Mata Mata this morning -- only discovered today that they now have a landline -- and the man told me he had seen a cheetah kill just this morning on his way to work! Managed to book a night drive too...

Anybody that have visited KTP recently that can update this for us pleassse ???

Hi Daan!

I was last in KTP at the end of February, so not that recent. However, I can tell you about the 'stable' residents you could encounter.
Nossob and Mata Mata - ask at reception about the owls in camp.(MM - usually in the tree outside the shop)
Dikbaardskolk picnic site - usually yellow mongooses and sometimes a jackal.
Ljiersdraai Picnic site - if you are lucky you could see the resident leopard in that area.(it has been known to 'use' the loos there in the past, and in February this year, it was seen in a tree nearby.)
Not much I know, but hope this helps you.
(Hopefully someone else who has been to KTP recently, can add a bit more)

Hi there everybody.

There is a fairly new Cape Fox family resident just south of the Kalahari Tented Camp. (KTC) This is a very special little animal to locate . . . . and maybe very worthwile to mention.

About 1km south of the KTC turnoff . . .you cross the riverbed . . . then up a fairly steep little rise on the southern bank . . . then continue for another 1 km again untill you drop down again into the riverbed (with the small dune on your left as you go down) .

The den is between the small dune on the edge of the riverbed . . partly obscured by grass. We only saw them in the mornings . . . with the sun
foiling any camera shot. Hope you are more lucky.

Just got back from KTP on Wednesday.
There is a spotted hyena den in the second loop after Leijersdraai. I will get the GPS co-ords from SO and post over the weekend.
Pearl Spotted Owlet in Nossob camp as well Twee Rivieren
Honey Badgers at the 20km south of Nossob as well as 10 km south of Nossob. also honey badgers just south of Dikbaardskolk picnic spot. Yellow mongooses stll begging at Dikbaardskolk picnic spot.

Brown hyena visited Urikaruus as well as Cape Fox. The latter seeming quite at home ..came to sit in the light of the chalet and gazed up at us.
