Just add a little (or a lot) of Amarula instead of milk and you have a really yummy nighttime treat

Remember that applies to Petrol cards as well

my treat at night (for all seasons) when in the bush is about a double shot of Amarula in a tall glass, topped up with milk to about 3/4, and then filled with crushed ice to the brim...

We had no problem filling up our car and paying with our petrol card at MataMata and Nossob.

Matthys...I cannot fathom drinking something in the morning which is notorious for making me have a good night's sleep...thus caffeine is my forte in the morning...good strong coffee!

We camp (Tent) most of the time. We do however have a Fridge/Freezer. But space is always taken into account when packing.

Steak Braai - Packet of Instant Spare Rib Marinade - just add water.
Butternut - Method already added by another forumite. Creamed Spinach - PnP has a boil in the bag spinach (You would need a pot). Baby Potatoes - done in foil with lots of butter. And Ina P's (Or another make) Mushroom or Pepper Sauce. Also, braai breads (garlic buns) are great too.

When it comes to the instant box salads, do yourself a favour and buy a 3 pack of "disposable" containers - big enough to take a full pack of salad. Perfect for serving and also for leftovers. A roll of Foil is also good to have as is zip lock bags.

I always buy plastic bottles/ condiments - ie tomato sauce, sweet chilli sauce, mayo - for camping trips. No glass problems.

Possibly the height of laziness....but we always take a precooked barbequed chicken from Spar/ PnP - who wants to cook after a long trip and then we can have some on sarmies for luch the next day or you can make chicken ala king (Chopped up chicken, some cream of chicken soup powder and cream of mushroom soup powder, mix with milk and add a dash of sherry, serve with pasta or rice).

We always braai extra little sausages to eat cold the next day too.

The only question I have is would it be helpful to bring one of those Brita/Pur water filters with me so i don't have to lug around all the water for a 14 night trip?
Also,do all the camps have a hot water kettle?

The tap water in some of the camps is so brakish (salty) that I doubt if a Brita filter would solve the problem - I may be wrong - does anyone else know?? We could not even brush our teeth with it!!

The wilderness camps have a tin kettle that is heated on the gas stove - takes a long time to boil, but works fine. Don't know about the "main" camps - they might have electric kettles, when the power is on.

judik - I personally do not have that much of a problem with the water, but then I grew up on a farm with pretty brackish water. Also, I only drink water as a last resort - beer, soft drinks, coffee & tea all take preference

All huts/bungalows will have a kettle - if you are camping, you are on your own.
